English for IT projects and technical choices

B1 Intermediate | Course 1

Develop the English needed to follow IT projects, understand customer needs and discuss technical choices. Work with topics including project timelines, data analysis, user interface design, machine learning and cloud development. Reading, listening and language activities build your understanding of comparisons, causes and effects, experiences and improvements.

This course helps learners build English language skills for IT study and work at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), within the programme’s Global Scale of English (GSE) range of 43-58.

Connecting projects, people and technology

Course 1 follows the language of project management before exploring data analysis, UX/UI design, machine learning and cloud development. Eight modules link technical topics with customer needs, teamwork and improvements.

Read and listen to material about Agile and Waterfall methods, project timelines, workloads and customer conversations. Later activities explore network performance, interface design, AI prompting and cloud flexibility, showing how different IT roles contribute to a project.

Vocabulary and grammar support the language of comparison, cause and effect, experiences and change. You work with comparatives and superlatives, relative clauses, the present perfect and passive forms, alongside expressions such as pull together and turn things around.

Connected scenarios place language in context: tracking progress, understanding what a customer needs, comparing design features and following explanations of how technology supports users. The emphasis is on understanding and using English within IT situations.

This course builds your B1 foundation for more detailed professional communication. Structured reading, listening and language practice help you follow project discussions, understand technical descriptions and develop the language needed to explain choices and improvements.
